The Museum of Cretan Ethnology<\/a> (M.C.E) was established in 1973 as an initiative of the Mesara Cultural Association (M.C.A), and is based in the Community of Vori in the District of Pyrgiotissa, in the Prefecture of Heraklion, Crete.The building was built in 1980 in Katochori of Voron on a plot – donated by the Stefanidis family, with an architectural study by architect N. Linardakis. Initially, the exhibition operated on the first floor, while the ground floor was a space for cultural events, educational programs, photography workshops, maintenance, archives. In the 80’s the M.C.E. carried out many research and educational programs, enriched his collections with traditional objects from all over Crete, and published many studies and monographs on textiles, metal objects, baskets, furniture, with a complete collection of ceramic objects, etc. <\/span>In 1992 the M.C.A  donated the Museum building, some old neighboring houses and have bought, a large plot of land within the village and  collections, workshops, libraries, and  Legal Status of the Museum changed. The Museum of Cretan Ethnology was established by Presidential Decree (no. 239) in 1992, became an Institution and has been operating under this Legal Status ever since. The Exhibition was extended to the two floors, created with the pioneer for that time Museological concept of G.H. Rivier, with thematic units from nutrition, housing, architecture, professions – production, all connected with the natural environment in which they were created and survived. The Museum was awarded in 1992 by the Council of Europe as the best Museum of the Year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Research Committee is responsible for the management of University of Western Macedonia research projects and the formulation of research policies. In this context, the Special Account for Research Funds (ELKE, in Greek) informs the University teaching and research staff about possible sources of funding, encourages submission of proposals for specific research projects and guides the University staff to funding procedures and raising research funds.<\/p>\n

ELKE aims at allocating and managing funds from any source to cover expenses of any kind for research, education, training, development as well as lifelong training and scientific, technological and art projects, conducting specialised studies, tests, laboratory measurements and analyses. In addition, ELKE provides opinions, specification drafting on behalf of third parties, as well as other relevant services or activities that contribute to linking education and research with production and are performed or provided by the members of UoWM current scientific staff or with the cooperation of other experts under Public or Private Law.<\/p>\n
